Library 2.0 Services to Teens - A listing

February 15, 2006 - Filed under: Technology, ResourcesStephanie Librarian @ 5:13 pm

Edit: I have moved the information in our popular Library 2.0 list to the Lib Success Wiki, under a section titled:  Library 2.0 Services to Teens - Best Practices. The reason behind this move is to open the list up to all who wish to contribute their findings. However, I will continue to accept suggestions in the form of comments, and will add any new link to the new new wiki page that is suggested. It’s all about freeing up information .

I am in the process of creating an online book group for teens with blogger for our library system. I will not be the only staff member who will moderate the blog, so I am trying to create a list of procedures for staff members to follow when someone posts something that is inappropriate for the blog. Do any of you have similar procedures? Thanks for your help.

“MySpace - Libraries on MySpace appeal to teens!”

Is this true, or just an aphorism? I’ve heard from teens that MySpace is a good source of library information, but I’ve also heard from the same teens that they want MySpace for themselves. They’re not pleased with organizations, especially ones they consider to be “authority” (read: school or library) being on their turf.

  14. Stephanie Says:

I’ve thought the same thing myself at times. I wonder, “will this teen feel comfortable with me making a comment on their profile”.

Maybe instead of being a “public entity”, a librarian could consider making a profile for THEIR OWN PERSONALITY. I’m experimenting with both right now, and I’ve found that some teens love to banter back and forth with me. Others seem more stand offish.

I think it the viewpoint changes from teen to teen.
